USC’s Nickell Robey-Coleman Shining in the Bright Lights

Super Bowl week is upon us and, as usual, there are more story lines than a reporter can cover.  None of those stories are more interesting then the emergence of Nickell Robey-Coleman as the mouth piece for the Los Angeles Rams. Just in case you have been under a rock, Robey-Coleman was the beneficiary of the greatest “blown call” in NFL history when the officials failed to call him for targeting and pass interference late in the NFC Championship game.  The no-call propelled L.A. to the Super Bowl, where Robey-Coleman is preparing to try to bring a Super Bowl ring home to the Rams. To say the former USC star...

L.A. Rams, New England Patriot Super Bowl Generating Little Interest

While the football Gods have reached down and bless the New England Patriots again, football fans everywhere are not impressed.  Tom Brady and his crew are back in the Super Bowl.  But, in getting to the Big Dance, they inadvertently shot the NFL in the foot. New England fans are so used to getting to the Super Bowl, that for the second straight time they simply have not supported the game.  Ticket prices for the 2019 edition are at an all-time low, with ticket brokers everywhere trying to move the ducats at a loss.  The formula is simple.  If New England gets to the Super Bowl, ticket brokers get burned....

Goff 5th Cal Bear QB to Start in Super Bowl

Jared Goff, the 2016 first pick in the NFL draft, gets to carry on a unique legacy at this year’s Super Bowl — he is the 5th Cal Bear quarterback to start in the Super Bowl.  That number reflects the most of any school in Super Bowl history.  Notre Dame, Purdue, and Alabama have the distinction of coming in second, with three QB’s each. Besides Goff, Joe Kapp, Craig Morton, Vince Ferragamo, and Aaron Rodgers are part of the illustrious class. Kapp started Super Bowl IV.  Known for his unorthodox, gunslinger ways, Kapp was knocked out of the game won by the Kansas City Chiefs. Morton was the starter for...

L.A. Rams Super Bowl Run Will Always Be Tainted by Ridiculous Call

The L.A. Rams will tee it up next weekend in a Super Bowl that virtually nobody is interested in.  One, the New England Patriots are back in the game again and, two, the Rams got the nod as the direct result of the worst blown call in NFL history. The NFL has been surprisingly quiet regarding the pass interference call that wasn’t called at the end of the NFC Championship game.  It was, without a doubt, the biggest officiating blunder of all-time.  To make matters worst, there are photos all over the Internet showing two game officials looking right at the play, but swallowing their flags. The no-call resulted in...

College Football Playoff Teams Hold Serve

For the first time in awhile, nothing has changed the last couple of weeks in the College Football Playoff top-4.  As expected, Alabama holds true at No. 1, followed by Clemson, and Notre Dame, who gave No. 12 Syracuse a wake-up call with a thrashing at Yankee Stadium.  Michigan, who sleep walked through a victory against Indiana, holds true at No. 4. I doubt very seriously if anyone derails any of these four before the playoff starts.  The lone exception to that will be Alabama, who will have their hands full against an improving Georgia in the SEC Championship game. Clemson has no serious challengers the rest of the way...
