NCAA basketball is a couple of months away and we are already looking towards another amazing NCAA hoops run. College basketball seems to catch the sports fans imagination, and we suspect March Madness in 2019 will be no different.
There will be the normal suspects — Villanova, North Carolina, Duke, Louisville, Kentucky, Arizona. But, there will also be big runs by smaller programs like Gonzaga, San Diego State, Texas Tech.
Michigan and Michigan State look to be contenders. Michigan State, if Tom Izzo didn’t have so many distractions within their own athletic department, would be one of our favorites, even though they lost their two best players. Izzo is the best at recruiting new talent, then molding them with the existing team.
Kansas is going to be as tough as ever. Bill Self has always dominated the Big 12, but this year could be the year Kansas shakes loose again to make a legit title run. The Lawson brothers transferring from Memphis will provide a big boost after loosing two starting seniors.
Duke has lost their entire starting five to graduation or the NBA draft, and yet they have reloaded in a phenomenal recruiting year. R.J. Barrett, Cameron Reddish, and Zion Williamson are as fine a recruiting class as Coach K has ever had at Duke. Expect big things out of them and a serious title run.
Gonzaga is 20-1 to win the national title in 2019, which is huge since they return almost their entire roster from a team that won 32 games last season. Mark Few has experience on his side, both on his roster and the fact that the Zags played for a National Title two years ago. Expect big things this next year coming out of Spokane.
