The first couple weeks of college football, and the first game of the NFL season are in the books, and the Top Dawg here at Sportswatchplus is off to a good start. While there was some predictable outcomes and some surprises, the Dawg got the job done in stellar fashion, going 10-4 this past week.
Working backwards, handicapping the Atlanta-Philly game was a tough call. Two good teams, with two good defenses, kicked things up after an hour lightning delay. I took the Eagles at home only because early season games tend to be low scoring, and I just thought Philly had more firepower than Atlanta. The game went my way when Philadelphia made a game-saving goal line stand at the end.
As usual, the first full week in college was a roller coaster ride. I took Washington in a very tough call. The game swiveled back and forth, ultimately turning on the Huskies own mistakes. Also, I thought Michigan was better than they were, just like everyone else. Notre Dame proved me wrong. In a very intriguing matchup to me, I had Oregon State and the 38 against Ohio State. The Beavers moved the ball up and down the field, so I was hopeful. The problem is the Buckeyes put up 77 on an Oregon State defense who didn’t have one answer all day.
On the win side though I crushed them. I had Alabama, Appalachian State and the points against Penn State, Oklahoma in a rout, West Virginia against lowly Tennessee, and Maryland at home against a overrated Texas Longhorn club. I had other winners too, but these put me up early and often.
For the season, including Week 1 of college football, the end of the preseason in the NFL, plus Thursday’s NFL opener, I am 22-9 for the season. Not a bad start.
Traditionally, I am much better at college football than I am at the NFL, like most people. So tune in for my weekly picks and see if we can’t all make some money.
