Stanford (-14.5), Love Kick Off 2018 Heisman Campaign

Stanford and San Diego St. kick off their 2018 college football reasons with a rematch from last seasons Aztec upset.  Bryce Love, the prohibitive favorite to win the Heisman trophy, returns to build on his all ready stellar career.

This game could not be more different than last season.  San Diego State scored late to upset the Cardinal in San Diego last season, which didn’t sit well with Stanford Coach David Shaw.  With about five minutes left in the game, and San Diego State on offense, the lights in Jack Murphy Stadium went out, delaying the game for several minutes.  When the lights came on some time later, San Diego State drove 50 yards in four minutes to win 20-17.

Last year, the Cardinal turned it over three times, fumbling once and throwing two interceptions.  This season, Stanford has K.J. Costello at quarterback, so expect them to take much better care of the football.  Also, Love will touch the ball all over the field, so there are going to be plenty of opportunities for him to display his explosive talents.

San Diego State lost a key element to their program when running back Rashad Penny went to the NFL.  In 2017, the Aztecs controlled the ball for almost 42 minutes of the game, limited Stanford’s chances on offense.  That won’t happen tonight.  While San Diego State has won three straight against Pac-12 opponents, I expect to see Stanford score early and often in what I assure you is a “revenge” game.

PICK:  Stanford -14.5.
